In what has become something of a tradition, Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis on Wednesday welcomed the Euroleague champions of Panathinaikos to his residence, Megaron Maximou, to congratulate them for their success at the 2009 Final Four.
"Congratulations for making Greece proud once again," Mr. Karamanlis told the management, coaching staff and players of Panathinaikos. During the visit, he also took a basketball in his hands and dished a behind-the-back assist to Mike Batiste, while he joked with head coach Zeljko Obradovic: "Come on, you have won too much!" On behalf of the team, owner Pavlos Giannakopoulos thanked the Prime Minister for his welcome and offered him a replica of the Euroleague trophy along with two jerseys signed by the players and the coaches.
