The transfer of Sokolov comes to reinforce rumors that CSKA are reducing their budget and with Sokolov in the roster perhaps the next player to be released might be Terrence Morris or even the ageing veteran Matjaz Smodis. Sokolov has been playing for Unics Kazan for the last 3 seasons and before that he played for Lokomotiv Rostov. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 28 games in the russian Superleague.
