DKV Joventut has agreed to terms of a contract with playmaker Kristaps Valters, who inked a two-year deal with his new team, the club confirmed Friday. Valters (188, 27) arrives from Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada, where he averaged 11.1 points on 48% three-pointers, 3.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 32 Spanish League games last season. He boosted his numbers up to 14.5 points and 6 assists in 2 games against Joventut.
Valters has also played for Triumph Lyubertsy in Russia, Snaidero Udine in Italy, EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany, Panionios Athens in Greece, Muratpasa Antalya in Turkey, as well as for Skonto Riga and ASK Broceni-LMT in his native Latvia. Valters has a brother, Sandis, playing professional basketball and his father, Valdis, was one of the best Latvian players ever, becoming the Soviet Union national team's starting point guard for several years. Valters is also a regular member of the Latvian national team. He helped Broceni to win the Latvian League and reach the NEBL final in 1999.
