Union Olimpija strengthened its frontcourt for the upcoming 2009-10 Euroleague season by inking power forward Gasper Vidmar to a one-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Vidmar (210, 21) arrives from Fenerbahce Ulker, that sent him to Olimpija for one year despite being under contract until the end of the 2010-11 season.
He averaged 3.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 16 Euroleague games last season. Vidmar helped Fenerbahce to win the Turkish League and reach the Euroleague Quarterfinals in 2008. He had a berakout 2006-07 season with Geoplin Slovan, averaging 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds in 38 Slovenian League games. Vidmar has also been a member of the Slovenian national team. He was cut by his soon-to-be coach, Jure Zdovc, for the Slovenian lineup at EuroBasket 2009. Born in Ljubljana, Vidmar goes back home to play his third consecutive Euroleague season.
