Foreigner limit increased to six in Lithuania

The foreigner limit in the Lithuanian League (LKL) has been increased to six for next season.

This decision was approved by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) in a meeting in Kaunas. Teams will be allowed to register five foreigners for free, but will have to pay a fee of 50,000 LTL for the registration of an additional foreign player. The money collected will be allocated to basketball schools around the country.

“A bigger number of foreigners in our top clubs will give them more opportunities to succeed in the international stage. We let them have more freedom,” Sarunas Kliokys, the president of LKL, reasoned the decision increase the foreigner limit.

The new regulations will be in use only for the 2010-2011 season and will have to be looked at again after the season ends.
