Rumors about Olympiakos and Valanciunas

Time for refurbishing in Olympiakos?

According to lrytas.lt, Olympiakos are interested in signing Lithuanian prospect Jonas Valanciunas(2.10-C). The article said that Valanciunas has already signed a professional contract with Lietuvos Rytas but the Greek team is wealthy enough to break Valanciunas out of it and sign him themselves.

Valanciunas is considered to be one of the top Lithuanian prospects in his age and he has also been a vital member of the Lithuanian Youth National teams. Valanciunas also attracted some interest recently from NBA scouts. He already showcased his talent this season. Although he started in Perlas Vilnius he was later signed over to Lietuvos Rytas and he played for them in the Baltic League and also the Lithuanian League. He averaged 11 points 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 8 games in the Baltic League and 8.9 points 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 18 games in the Lithuanian League.

Furthermore according to basketnews.lt, the player's agent did say that Olympiakos has not made an offer to buy Valanciunas but the agent says it's probably far too early for the player to leave Lithuania and Lietuvos Rytas. Olympiakos could be a possible next step in the player's career but it might be too early. Valanciunas is predicted to be in the 2011 NBA Draft and going to Olympiakos might affect his chances, like for example Nick Calathes' draft ranking after he signed for Panathinaikos.
