Azovmash Mariupol added a major force to its frontcourt with the signing of Erik Daniels. The forward has experience in the competition, helping Akasvayu Girona reach the 2008 ULEB Cup final. Daniels (204, 27) arrives from Erie of the NBDL, where he was an all-star last season, posting 21.1 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 50 games.
He first came to Europe three years ago to play for Biella in the Italian League, averaging 16.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2 assists per game. His rebounding totals were second best in the league. From there he moved to Virtus Roma, but missed the start of the season due to a wrist injury and wound up appearing in only two Euroleague games. Midseason he moved to Girona where he recorded 8.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 19 minutes over seven ULEB Cup games to help his club finish as the competition’s runner-up. Daniels first rose to stardom at the University of Kentucky, where he was the second best scorer on the team during his senior season with 14.5 points per game. He also played in the NBA for Sacramento in 2004-05 season.
