Caja Laboral beefed up its backcourt Friday by signing guard Chris Lofton to a short-term contract. Lofton (188, 23) agrees to a two-month deal with a team option to extend it for the rest of the season.
He arrives from Mersin BSB of the Turkish League, which he lit up last season, ranking third in scoring with 20.1 points per game. Lofton made headlines by leading his team to victory over Euroleague side Fenerbahce Ulker by shooting 13 for 20 from downtown to finish with 47 points. He topped that with a 61-point performance – including 17 for 22 from beyond the arc – in a victory over CASA TED Kolejliler. Lofton had a standout college basketball career at the University of Tennessee, where he was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year after his junior season and received the SEC Sportsmanship Award after his senior season, during which he successfully battles testicular cancer. Lofton left Tennessee with the school record for career three-pointer with 431, placing him third in NCAA history.
