Unicaja's season-long run of injury problems continued on Friday when shooting guard Saul Blanco suffered a muscle tear in his right leg that will keep him out of action until the start of 2010.
Blanco (194, 24) was hurt in a practice on Friday, after which team doctors diagnosed the tear and estimated his recuperation time at four weeks. He had been averaging 5.8 points in less than 15 minutes per game off the bench in this, his rookie Euroleague season.
Unicaja was undefeated until Week 6, when flu kept starters Robert Archibald and Carlos Jimenez out of the lineup, but continues to lead Group B with a 5-1 record. The team has been without guard Joseph Gomis the entire season, due to an injury that will last into the new year, while one of its star signings in the offseason, Georgios Printezis, played only two games before hurting his shoulder on a nasty fall after a dunk. Printezis has begun light workouts but his date of return is not clear yet.
