Second-year center Kosta Koufos has played only 76 minutes in 21 games for the Jazz so far this season. He's about to get busy.
The Jazz have sent Koufos, their first-round pick in the 2008 draft, to the Utah Flash of the NBA Development League. He is scheduled to play in the Flash's game tonight against Maine at the McKay Events Center in Orem.
Koufos was assigned to the D-League after practicing with the Jazz on Sunday morning. "We're excited about it and I hope he is, too," Flash coach Brad Jones said. "For Kosta, it's an opportunity to play. He needs to play and he'll get plenty of opportunity with us." Last season, Kosta played 10 games for the Flash. He averaged 16.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2 assists.
In extremely limited action for the Jazz this season, Koufos averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds. He played 81/2 minutes in Saturday night's 116-83 win over New Jersey. Looking like he needs a dose of confidence, however, Koufos went scoreless and committed four turnovers. The Flash reached the halfway point of their 50-game regular season with a 14-11 record.
