Jeremy Tyler heading to Maccabi Haifa?

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Jeremy Tyler's jump from high school to an overseas professional basketball league is progressing to the point that his agent is negotiating with a team in Haifa, Israel. The 6-foot-11, 260-pound Tyler announced in late April that he was skipping his senior season at San Diego High to play overseas. He had hoped to be able to make a decision by Friday, his 18th birthday.
"We're pretty close," said Sonny Vaccaro, the former shoe company executive who is advising Tyler and his family. "There's no hurry. They don't start playing until next December. He's in good shape. We know we have something." Tyler would become the first American-born player to leave high school early to play professionally overseas. When he's eligible for the NBA draft in 2011, some see him as a potential No. 1 pick overall.
Haifa representatives recently saw Tyler work out in Santa Monica and are negotiating with his agent, Arn Tellem. Tellem, who's based in Los Angeles, didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
Shortly after Tyler made his announcement, Vaccaro said eight teams from Europe, Israel and China had expressed interest. James Tyler said representatives from two Israeli teams and one from Rome have seen his son work out. A trip to work out for a team in Spain is on hold while Tellem negotiates with Haifa.
"There were five or six teams at one time that came rushing in trying to do a deal," James Tyler said. "I just prefer to have it over. I want him to start focusing. The good thing is, he'll have enough time to know what they're doing and start working on things they're going to be asking of him. I'm just tingling to see where he's at so he can start working on those things." Jeremy Tyler averaged 28.7 points during his junior season, but said high school ball had become boring. Some observers are against his move, but others, such as Hall of Famer and fellow San Diegan Bill Walton, have spoken out in support of Tyler.

Maroussi interested in Jeremy Tyler

Maroussi BC announced via its official website that the agent of american basketball prodigy Jeremy Tyler(2.11-PF/C), Sonny Vaccaro asked to meet them. Vaccaro is in Greece these days trying to secure a high profile contract for his client and Maroussi did not miss the opportunity to step in. Maroussi did bring another player from the States last season, american greek small forward Pat Calathes(2.07-SF) who is the older brother of the Gators star and this year's draft contestant, Nick Calathes (2.00-PG).
Sonny Vaccaro had a long meeting with the GM of Maroussi, Panayiotis Alexandris discussing in details the abilities of Jeremy Tyler and whether Maroussi would be a suitable team for him to develop his skills. The announcement said that Vaccaro will meet with other european teams as well and that he will stay in touch with the administration of Maroussi leaving the possibility of a deal open.

Jeremy Tyler going to Greece?

The first formal step for the basketball prodigy Jeremy Tyler to find a place to play in Europe next season begins this weekend. Tyler, a 6-foot-11 center from San Diego, announced last month that he would skip his senior year of high school to play professionally overseas.
Sonny Vaccaro, who is advising Tyler, will fly to Athens on Sunday for meetings with Greece’s top basketball teams, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.Vaccaro said the talks would be the first formal discussions about where Tyler would play, but interest remains from clubs in Italy, Spain and Israel. It had been thought that Tyler would play in Spain, but Greece has become a top option.
Olympiacos surprised some in the N.B.A. by signing the former Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Childress last off-season.One of its owners, the billionaire shipping magnate Panayiotis Angelopoulos, said in an interview with The New York Times last fall that he would continue to try to make a big dent in the N.B.A. free-agent market. Panathinaikos, the heated rival of Olympiacos, won the Euroleague title last Sunday.
Vaccaro said that he expected a deal with a club by the middle of June and that it was possible Tyler could go to Europe to audition for teams. He said the monetary figure would likely be “mid six figures.” Tyler, 17, said he was eager for the next step in his career. “I have dreams every night about me playing,” he said. “Mentally, I’m pretty ready to go out there and play. I want to show the world that this wasn’t a bad decision.”
Update : People of the administration of Olympiakos and the coaching staff were asked earlier today regarding these rumors. They were asked during the 1st play-offs game against Maroussi and they said they have no knowledge of being contacted about Tyler.

Jeremy Tyler wants to play in Europe?

Jeremy Tyler, a 6-foot-11 junior, has dropped out of San Diego High School and says he will skip his senior year to play professionally in Europe, The New York Times and Yahoo! Sports reported on Wednesday.Tyler, 17, will become the first player born in the United States to leave high school early to play professional basketball overseas. He is expected to come back in two years, when he is eligible for the NBA draft.
Tyler had made a verbal commitment to Louisville. He has not signed with an agent or a professional team, but he probably will play in Spain, the Times reported, although clubs from other European leagues are showing interest. "Nowadays people look to college for more off-the-court stuff versus being in the gym and getting better," Tyler told the Times. "If you're really focused on getting better, you go play pro somewhere. Pro guys will get you way better than playing against college guys."
Point guard Brandon Jennings, a Los Angeles native, graduated last year from Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) and became the first high school grad to skip college and play pro ball in Europe. He is wrapping up his first season with Lottomatica Virtus Roma in Italy. Jennings is projected as a high pick in June's NBA draft.
