Rick Pitino to coach Puerto Rico NT?

We can say that this fits the PBT format because Rick Pitino once coached professionals (you can insert your Louisville basketball jokes here), or that the Puerto Rican national team features NBA players such as J.J. Barea and Carlos Arroyo. But the honest truth is we just find this fascinating.

Efes Pilsen added size with Santiago

Efes Pilsen shored up its frontline by signing veteran center Daniel Santiago, who helped Regal FC Barcelona reach the Euroleague Final Four last season. Santiago (216, 33) is a veteran of four Euroleague seasons. He joined Unicaja in 2005 and played there for three seasons before moving to Barcelona last summer. Santiago averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks for Barca in just 15 minutes per game. He also helped the club win the Spanish League crown. While at Unicaja, Santiago helped the club reach its first-ever Final Four and win its first Spanish League crown. Santiago was named the Euroleague's MVP for March in the 2006-07 season.

He spent this past summer playing for the Puerto Rican national team at the FIBA Americas Championships, where he averaged 6.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 10 games as Puerto Rico claimed a silver medal and qualified for next year's world championships, which will take place in Santiago's newest home, Turkey. Santiago played college basketball at the University of New Mexico and St. Vincent College and has played professionally in Puerto Rico for Vaqueros de Bayamon, in Italy for Pallacanestro Varese and Virtus Roma, in the NBA for Phoenix and Milwaukee and in Spain for Unicaja and Barcelona. Among his career highlights are winning one Italian League championship and two Spanish League crowns and a pair of gold medals at the 2001 and 2003 Central American Championships with the Puerto Rican national team.

Lary Ayuso offered to Ilisiakos

Prolific scorer Larry Ayuso(1.92-SG) was offered to greek team Ilisiakos according to superbasket.gr. Ilisiakos won their promotion by conquering the A2 league last season and the puerto-rican scorer was offered to them although his salary might be a bit "steep" for them. Ilisiakos belongs to one of the biggest players' agent in Greece, Tasos Delimpaltadakis so it might seem not so improbable for Ayuso to sign with them.

Ayuso has played for Zalgiris and Cibona in the Euroleague in the past and he is also a member of the National Team of Puerto Rico. This past season he started playing for Iowa in the NBDL and then moved on to Cangrejeros de Santurce averaging 21.4 points 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 32 games.

Prelevic to lead Paok, Johnsen to Puerto Rico?

According to sport24.gr, Branislav Prelevic will lead Paok as their new president. As it was pointed out in a previous article, the district court of Thessaloniki will appoint a new administration group and Branislav Prelevic will be in the proposition that will be submitted by the members of the semir-pro Paok Sports Club. The semi-pro club is the founding comittee of the pro club that is currently Paok, as it is for every other pro team in A1 league of Greece.

Prelevic is seen as a leading figure of the past that will hopefully unite the fans of Paok under his wing much like the current president of Paok football club, Theo Zagorakis, a promiment member of the Greek National Team that won the Euro 2004. At the moment the situation is quite fluid and rumors say that Prelevic will want to have full authority on all decisions concerning the team.

On a side-note, Britton Johnsen(2.05-PF) is rumored to continue his career in Puerto Rico.

Maccabi suspended Carlos Arroyo

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv announced Thursday that point guard Carlos Arroyo(1.86-PG/SG) has been suspended from the club until further notice. In an official press release, the club stated that the suspension was due to "inappropriate behavior." Arroyo did not practice with the team on Thursday.

Maccabi is just one week ahead of its most crucial game of the season, at home against Real Madrid in Week 4 of the Top 16. After a 19-point loss in Madrid, Maccabi is looking for revenge and a win with a margin sufficient enough to hold the potential tiebreaker advantage at the end of this stage. In 12 Euroleague games thus far, the guard from Puerto Rico averaged 13.6 points and 4.4 assists per game.

Rick Apodaca positive on doping test

Rick Apodaca(1.92-SG) was found positive on a drug test and the substance that was detected was THC, aka the active ingredient in cannabis. The sample was taken on December 14th in a game of Ferrara against Udine.

Apodaca is the main scorer of Ferrara with 17.2 points and 2.6 assists in 5 games. This is certainly not a good thing for Ferrara that are currently in the penultimate position in the leaderboard and this means they might lose the player.
