Virtus agreed with Koponen
According to mondobasket Petteri Koponen agreed to continue his career in Virtus Bologna and signed a 4-year contract with the italian team. There were 2 more teams competing for the finnish point-guard, rival Fortitudo Bologna and Tau Vittoria. Apparently Virtus got the player to sign after agreeing to pay the buy-out clause of 500.000 euros to Honka Playboys, his former team in Finland.
He was drafted in 2007 at number 30 by the Philadelphia 76ers was lated traded to Portland. Koponen played for the Honka Cowboys in Finland last season leading his team to win the league title and he also took part in the Las Vegas Summer League where he did pretty well averaging 13.2 points and 3.4 assists in 5 games starting in all five of them. Koponen is known for his passing ability and his very mature decision making in the fast break. Koponen's new contract for 4 years will benefit him 2 million dollars and there is an NBA-escape clause in the contract for each year.
Koponen averaged 18.3 points 3.3 rebounds 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals in 33 of the finnish league.
