Olympiacos broke Macijauskas' contract.. finally

Olympiacos and Arvydas Macijauskas are no longer bound by contract.

Olympiacos announced today via their official website that the team and Arvydas Macijauskas are no longer bound by contract. The contract was dissolved and now Macijauskas is free to pursue his career elsewhere and Olympiacos do not have to pay him the rest of his contract. The battle was lost by Macijauskas in Greek courts but at least now he is a free agent.

A loose translation of the announcement is as follows:

"Taking into consideration the No. 25/2009 decision the of the Secondary Commission of Economic Disputes of Professional Basketball Playersl (B ΕΕΟΔΑΚ) it unanimously accepted (by a vote of 5 - 0) the dissolution of the contract between Olympiacos and Arvydas Macijauskas. The contract is not valid starting from September 1, 2008 and the athlete is to be blamed for gross negligence on his part that led to a serious injury on16.8.2008, that it occured outside the practice of the team.

The administration of Olympiacos , feel that they have completely justified their position and this decision proves it beyond any doubt. They also wish to Arvydas Macijauskas every success in his future endeavours and his career. "
