Another candidate to be added to a long list for Panionios. This time it's the Slovakian power forward Martin Rancik(2.05-F)
According to superbasket.gr the new candidate is Martin Rancik and he is very close to signing a contract with Panionios. Rancik had a long career plagued by injuries and health issues. Nevertheless he managed to play for quite a few teams in Europe. After he graduated from Iowa State he played for he signed with Olimpia Milano in 2001 and stayed there for 3 seasons. He moved to Fortitudo Bologna after that and the next step of his career would have been Olympiakos but due to heart arrythmia he had to break his contract. Later on he signed with Bilbao after the doctors reassured him that he can play. He played for 2 seasons in Bilbao and last season he played for Estudiantes but he was injured and got replaced by Petar Popovic(2.10-C). Last season he averaged 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds.
On the hand Panionios agreed tearms with another veteran, Bulgarian-French forward/center Vasko Evtimov(2.06-C) who will be arriving shortly to Athens. There was also the case of Georgian forward/center Nikoloz Tsitishvili(2.09-PF/C) and the rumor is that there was a problem with his athlete's viza that didn't allow him to sign with Panionios.
