Real Madrid signed Cheikh Samb to short-term deal

Real Madrid reached a short-term agreement with center Cheikh Samb, who inked a one-month deal with the club, with a team option to extend it for an extra month. Samb (215, 24) arrives from the New York Knicks, where he played a couple of NBA games last season.

He had quite a eventful 2008-09 season, which he started with the Detroit Pistons, was traded to the Denver Nuggets and then assigned to the Colorado 14ers, averaging 13.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks in 9 D-League games, even having a triple-double. Samb joined the Los Angeles Clippers and finished the season with the Knicks.

He has also played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the D-League, as well as for Cornella, Unelco Tenerife and Arona Basket Sur in Spain. His brother Mamadou Samb belongs to Regal FC Barcelona and may see some minutes with the first team this season. Real Madrid also inked center IƱaki De Miguel for his third-division team, but inscribed him in the Euroleague. Both Samb and De Miguel are set to replace Darjus Lavrinovic and Tomas Van den Spiegel, as both players are injured for several weeks.

I've seen Cheikh playing tonite, and he must improve his conditioning. He's tall, strong and athletic, but quite slow and shy on the court.
