Lietuvos Rytas is reported to have made the first big deal for next season.
According to an unofficial source the Lithuanian club agreed terms with forward Brad Newley, who spent the last season at Besiktas Istanbul. The source claims that a contract has already been singed and the 25-year-old player will play in Vilnius no matter how the Lithuanian League (LKL) finals finish. Lietuvos Rytas would clinch a direct spot in Euroleague by winning the domestic trophy, whereas if they lost they would have to play in the qualification.(editor : they've already won it)
The Australian had a wonderful season in the Turkish League averaging 17,6 points with amazing accuracy, grabbed 4,5 rebounds, dished out 1,3 assists and stole the ball 1,2 times per game.
Newley, who was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 54th pick in the NBA draft of 2007, will become the third Australian player to ever play for Lietuvos Rytas after Matthew Nielsen left Vilnius a season and a half ago while Aron Baynes arrived for this season and will stay for next year as well.
