Benetton offered new contract to Mahmudi

Few days after season 08/09 finished for Benetton, the club's management decided to offer new 3-year deal to its head coach Oktay Mahmudi. The team from Treviso advanced to Playoffs as No.4 in regular season with score 18-12, after what they knocked out La Fortezza 3-2 in the Quarterfinals. As it was expected, the defending champion Montepaschi Siena was better 3-0 in the Semis, but Benetton already did a great job securing the Euroleague qualifications for the next season.

The club offered coach Mahmudi new 3-year contract and his decision is expected in the next 7 days. According to some rumors Benetton will have new restricted budget for 08/09 and it is questionable if Mahmudi will accept the deal or not. Oktay Mahmudi took over Benetton Treviso in November 2007 and this year he was named 'Eurocup Coach of the Year'. Before Benetton, Mahmudi spent 7 years as a head coach of Efes Pilsen and 8 more as assistant coach. He led Efes as a HC to four championship titles and the same number of trophies in Turkish National Cup. In Euroleague, Efes reached the Quarterfinals twice.
