Euroleague champion Regal FC Barcelona has made its first off-season move, reaching an agreement-in-principle with center Kosta Perovic, who is set to ink a three-year deal with the Spanish powerhouse.
The deal, pending medical tests, would give an option to the club after the 2011-12 season. Perovic (217, 25) arrives from Power Electronics Valencia, where he averaged 10.8 points and 4 rebounds in 14 Eurocup games last season. He had a game-high 17 points in that competition's final against Alba Berlin, helping Valencia win its second Eurocup title and qualify for the Euroleague.
Perovic was a standout player for Partizan Belgrade in his native Serbia earlier in his career. He averaged 10.8 points on 50% shooting, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20 Euroleague appearances in the 2006-07 season. He then traveled to Golden State of the NBA, but only featured in seven games. Perovic also played for the Serbian national team at the 2006 World Championships in Japan and EuroBasket 2009, helping the team to make it to the final and win the silver medal. Perovic reached an agreement with Valencia to terminate his contract earlier on Monday.
