One Euroleague team's loss is another's gain as Turkish powerhouse Efes Pilsen announced Velimir Perasovic as its new head coach on Monday.
Perasovic, 45, arrives from Cibona Zagreb, where he spent the last two seasons. During his time with Cibona, Perasovic led the team to two Croatian League championships, one Croatian Cup and a pair of Adriatic League finals.
In the Euroleague, Perasovic helped the team reach the Top 16 in both of his seasons there. Before landing in Cibona, Perasovic had spent his entire coaching career in Spain, where he led Tau Ceramica to the 2006 Euroleague Final Four in Prague. He also coached a season with Caja San Fernando of Sevilla and another with Estudiantes of Madrid. Perasovic was an accomplished scorer during his playing days, first with the great Jugoplastika Split dynasty, with whom he won three straight Euroleague titles between 1989 and 1991. He later spent four years at Tau and five at Fuenlabrada among 11 playing seasons in Spain before retiring.
