Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius practically completed its roster for the 2010-11 season before most others have even started after it signed point guard Jerry Johnson and center Cemal Nalga over the weekend.
Johnson (183, 28) arrives from Belgian side Spirou Charleroi, where he is still engaged in the league finals. He signed a one-year deal with L. Rytas. Johnson played for L. Rytas coach Drazen Anzulovic at Charleroi during his first season there. Johnson is a Eurocup veteran and averaged 14.9 on 45.5% three-point shooting and 3.4 assists in 10 games during the 2008-09 season. He was limited to just two Eurocup games last year due to injuries. Johnson finished a successful college basketball career at Rider University as the Bronc's No. 2 all-time leading scorer before coming to Europe and playing for SKS Starogard in Poland, Buyuksehir Belediyesi in Turkey and Stade Clermontaise Basket in France. L. Rytas will be his first Euroleague club.
Nalga (208, 22) signed a two-year contract with L, Rytas. He arrives from German side Alba Berlin, with whom he played in the Eurocup title game last season. He joined Berlin during the season and served an important role as a big body off the bench. He grew up with Izmir in his native Turkey before joining Galatasaray Café Crown, where he played three seasons and reached the 2008 ULEB Cup semifinals. Nalga was a member of the Turkish national junior teams and won silver medals at the Under-18 European Championships in 2005 and the U-20 European Championships in 2006.
